Heart of the Universe is a top-down shooter developed using the Unreal Development Kit. It was developed in 2 days during Global Game Jam 2013. The goal of the game is to defend the central core from being damaged by the bombing enemies while also dodging incoming fire from the enemy battleships. The waves of enemies get increasingly higher until the player or the core is defeated. 

 

Note: Due to the 48-hour limit of GGJ, the game is rather unfinished, but definetly playable.

Scripting

Using UnrealScript, I created custom classes for a Game Mode, Player Controller, Pawns, Mouse Interface, Projectiles and Bots. The bots are programmed to act differently with some going directly for you, and others for the core.

Level Design / Concept

As simple as the level design was, the zoom was a very important aspect to get right. Too zoomed in didn't give the player enough infomation while too zoomed out made it too easy to spot the bombing enemies.
